Spread the love of reuse at community events! The Education and Outreach Program at SCRAP is always looking for more volunteers who are interested in getting out into the community to share the love of reuse! Join the team and help us take SCRAP into the community! What better way to spread the love of reuse and inspire creativity and environmentally sustainable behavior than by bringing SCRAP to the masses? Education and Outreach volunteers make it all possible by participating in community events, parades, trainings and more. SCRAP will be hosting an E&O training on Monday, May 12th from 6:30 to 8pm at SCRAP This is your opportunity to learn the ropes of outreach volunteering and SCRAP education. This is such an exciting and fun program; SCRAP E&O volunteers are to thank for SCRAP's continued presence throughout the community and for the thousands of people inspired to incorporate creative reuse into their everyday lives. Please RSVP to Emily at emily@scrapaction.org or 503-294-0769 (ext. 4) so that we know to expect you! But wait, there's more... Show off your Crafty Skills! Share your crafty samples with our Education Program The Education & Outreach Program wants samples of your reuse crafts. We want to inspire the reuse spirit by showing people all of the amazing ways that reused materials can be made into awe-inspiring works of art and super-handy items. If you have an example of something you make that you can bear to part with, we can give you volunteer-hour credits for the work you put into it. Look through the countless wonders of your creation and consider donating something to SCRAP. Be sure to let us know what the item is made out of. If you'd like you could even teach a class...just ask. What can SCRAP's Education Outreach Program do for you? SCRAP is strongly committed to its education programs for K-12 education. If you are interested in any of the outreach efforts described below, please contact Emily by calling (503) 294-0769 or email education@scrapaction.org. Come for a SCRAP Tour - Smaller groups of 15 or less can schedule a presentation about reuse at SCRAP during off-hours. Visiting SCRAP allows to you see what we're all about. You will learn about the history and importance of SCRAP, go on a tour, and have time to explore and shop for materials. Unfortunately, we are unable to facilitate a hands-on project at SCRAP due to limited space. Attention teachers! The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality offers the lesson plans for Rethinking Recycling on their website. There is a lot of useful information on how to incorporate the 3Rs into K-5th grade curriculum. Brag Time! SCRAP won the 2003 Association of Oregon Recycler's "Recycling Educator of the Year" award for our creative approaches to teaching reuse and waste prevention to the public. | ||
